Abstract

The generation of questions by students, specificallytest questions, is the basis of a learning method,proposed and used by different authors, that providessignificant improvements in academic results. Thebasic idea is to ask students to write questions,together with the corresponding answers, fromvarious pieces of the material. The questions are thenshared with the whole class. As with anystudent-generated content, the questions can be peerreviewed to reflect on their interest, to assess theirquality, their difficulty or to provide feedback toimprove them. However, this general idea allows multiple implementations. It is not very clear whichorientations will give the best academic results andhow they can affect student satisfaction. In thisarticle, we present a set of lessons learned during ourexperience from various academic courses usingthese methods. We have also gathered some valuabledata on the number of questions generated, how manyof them are of sufficient quality, and the level ofsatisfaction declared by students.
