Abstract

In the philological study, the historic plane that involves the text’s composition can’t be ignored. And equally, the historic study can’t ignore the text, since this is an evidence created by individuals who become aware of the importance of their own past and the need to preserve it. This implies to consider a fundamental problem in studies of Middles Ages: if epic texts can serve as a viable historic source. Given the complexity of this issue, we will study the manifestations of the embodiment of medieval Castillian war and its implications, specially on the epic cycle of Fernán González and its manifestations in clerical poetry and the Alphonsine chronicles.
