The main objective of this doctoral thesis was to test the suitability of the Observational Methodology as an optimal methodology for collecting data on motor behavior in Sports Sciences. To do this, this research was structured in five complementary studies. As specific ob jectives, different statistical techniques have been tested based on the research designs chosen, in order to achieve the objectives proposed in each of the published studies. The object of study and where the implementation of the Observational Methodolog y has been carried out has been highperformance Sport, specifically highlevel soccer. Three different observation instruments have been used, which have allowed the collection of more than 12,400 multievents or different behaviors in the five studies. T control the quality of the data, o two complementary tools have been used: Cohen's Kappa and the Theory of Generalizability. The designs chosen have been three different, being in direct relationship with the objectives of each of the studies. In each of t he chapters of this doctoral thesis, the methodological steps carried out to achieve the proposed objectives have been concisely detailed, specifying precisely each of the methodological decisions taken. The results of the present investigation confirm the suitability of the Observational Methodology as an optimal methodology for the collection of motor behavior data in Sports.
