Abstract

Formative assessment is, without a doubt, a powerful tool to positively impact on the process of personal construction of learning. Therefore, this paper presents a model for the assessment of project management competencies in engineering students. This model considers the performance of each student and his/her contribution in a simulation environment that offers opportunities for students to experience situations that are similar to what they will encounter in the working world (situated learning). Thus, competence assessment is done through different pieces of evidence that are pertinent to each assessed competence. Furthermore, the proposed model provides students with feedback on their competence level, allowing them to know where they are, to identify their mistakes and to know what they can modify and improve, with the ultimate goal of facilitate students’ self-regulation.
