Abstract

The paper describes the use of perception and causative verbs followed by subordinate infinitive clauses introduced by de preposition. Sentences like le mandó de apartarse, le hizo de guardar o lo hacemos de reír are examples of this kind of usage. According to data from the diachronic corpus corde, these structures appeared in religious and mystical treatises, technical and historical works, legal documents and letters. Nevertheless, since 1800 they began to emerge in literary characters, simulating oral and colloquial language. This new pattern could be interpreted as a change in the sociolinguistic consideration of the use of preposition de with perception and causative verbs.
