Abstract

Currently, family and school appear to be, unquestionably, the two most important contexts in the development of children, playing complementary roles in the educational process and, therefore, the established relationships are decisive for them. A bunch of studies demonstrate the importance of parents' role both in their children’s education and development, and also in their participation, at individual and collective level, in schools. This thesis, directed by Dr. Jordi Garreta and for whose realization, qualitative methodology (ethnography and interviews) and quantitative (surveys) has been used, it argues the existing relationship between families of immigrant origin and schools, the intervening factors, which mediate in shaping positive dynamics in the process of family involvement, and the communication barriers between parents and schools that affect their participation in school life.
