Sara Gómez Seibane is a Full Professor of Spanish Language at the University of La Rioja. Her research focuses on the morphosyntax of Spanish in a wide chronological framework and in the field of Contact Linguistics, in particular Spanish and Basque. Her findings show that language contact is a trigger of changes in some phenomena and patterns related to word order, clitics, and modalization and attenuation strategies in the Spanish language. This research has been carried out in 2 national projects, as principal investigator (PID2023-147098NB-I00) and co-principal investigator (PID2019-105865GB-I00). During my career, I've been part of the research team for 8 national projects and a contracted researcher on one regional project. She has attended more than 71 international conferences and published 43 research papers (26 in JCR/SJR), 28 book chapters and 4 books and, as an editor, in 8 collective books. In the last 10 years, she has been an invited speaker on corpus design and language contact outcomes at national and international universities (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, Universidade Federal da Bahia, Université Paris 8, Université de Lausanne, Freie Universität Berlin, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia), as well as in research seminar programmes in master's degree (UAM, UNED, UNIOVI). She also collaborates as an expert in other projects on the contact between Spanish and Catalan (UIB-CSIC), Spanish and French (CAREXIL-FR, Université Paris 8), and has been invited to participate on this topic in the Eramus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) organised by the University of Augsburg in 2023. She has advised 9 (under)graduate students in Research Initiation Grant programs and supervised 20 Master’s theses, mostly assessed with the highest possible rating. She is currently supervising 5 PhD theses on variation and change in the Spanish language (direct object marking, attenuation, diachrony of the verb, and linguistic changes in contact with Catalan), 2 of them with the support of national funded grants. Since 2018 she has been reviewing for the State Research Agency (AEI) and the Basque University System (UNIBASQ). She is a member of the advisory board of 8 research journals, such as Verba, Anuario del Seminario de Filología Vasca “Julio de Urquijo” (ASJU), la Revista de Historia de la Lengua Española y Res Diachronicae. She is also a frequent external reviewer for scientific journals, and a member of 15 scientific committees of international conferences. She has acted as a member of examination boards for doctoral theses at national universities, and as an external member of the examination board for the doctoral thesis “Linguistic Transfer in Basque Spanish: Gender Agreement Production and Attitudes” at Georgetown University (USA). As major administrative duties, she was the Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor for Faculty Affairs (UR), and Technical Director of the Training programme of the Fundación UR between 2016 and 2020.
