Abstract

School environments are highly relevant educational spaces for promoting greater autonomy for children in cities through the development of safe and healthy relationships in a sustainable setting. In this study, a questionnaire was developed to assess the sustainability of school environments in the 21 public Early Childhood and Primary Education Centers in the city of Logroño. The questionnaire consists of 12 elements to evaluate, grouped into 5 categories: pedestrian mobility, cycling mobility, motorized mobility, public transportation, and recreational areas. An urban design that favors motorized mobility has been identified in these spaces, with numerous deficiencies in terms of infrastructure that promote cycling and pedestrian mobility, public transportation, as well as recreational and sustainable areas.
