Zusammenfassung

This paper studies the model of female performers that was constructed by the press, especially through criticism, at the end of the 18th century. The aim is to determine what the merits of a singer's performance were and what importance was attached to the voice in relation to other qualities. As explained in the following pages, the profile of a 'critic' at the time was often that of a member of the public, male and not necessarily knowledgeable about the subject he wrote about. To carry out this research, we propose the reading and analysis of some of the most significant newspaper in this regard.
