Abstract
In this work an analysis about specific problems related to cost estimation in software development projects is carried out. Relevant differences in front of cost estimation in other engineering activities seem to exist, mainly arising from its own life cycle and from basic technologies available in this sector. The main focus will be those of users asking for the information system, in particular starting before it becomes a project itself. Some time after, when detailed analysis of functionality takes place, some parameters can be estimated and usual effort models such as COCOMO II and so on, make possible detailed cost estimation about the project.
