Cement-wood composites are an opportunity for energetic and sustainablerehabilitation of buildings. The cement-wood composites exhibit low thermalconductivity and good sound absorbing performance. However these composites haveworse mechanical properties than traditional concretes. The mechanical characteristics of these materials depend on several factors. One ofthem is the cement-wood bonding consistency. The bonding consistency includesadhesion between cement and wood and the behavior of the cement transition zone. This paper presents a new method for assessing the cement-wood bondingconsistency as a tool for preliminary exploration of possible surface treatments ofwood, designed to improve the mechanical properties in the final composite.Physical and chemical treatments of wood were tested, obtaining results of bondingconsistency with cement, which allow selection of new treatments for the manufactureof cement-wood composites with improved mechanical properties.
