The sea is an inexhaustible energy source that is not being exploited to its fullpotential.Tidal or wave energy is a clean, renewable offshore energy without CO2emissions. It consists in the use of kinetic and potential energy of waves to produceelectricity. Although the wave and tidal energy industry is still under research andtechnological development, it is considered an emerging industry.Spain is one of the main countries where differents technologies of tidal energy arebeing developed. Spain in the future hopes to become a global leader in wave energy. This article presents Spanish legislation to manage this type of project and themethodology to identify the environmental impacts of energy waves devices moredeveloped in Spain.
