Abstract

According to the Technical Building Code (TBC), Spain is divided into 12 differentclimate zones. The maximum thermal transmittance coefficients allowed in theconstruction are limited by those climate zones. These values are lower in thoseclimates with colder winters. There are the following climate zones in La Rioja: Logroño D2, D1 for locations with aheight between 200 and 400 meters with respect to Logroño and E1 for locations with aheight greater than 400 meters. This study aims to determine the climate zones not only in terms of the heightdifference, but also the actual minimum temperatures, adjusting the transmittances tothem. It is about optimizing heating and cooling systems in the Riojan homes, with aprocess of innovation and continuous improvement.Installed capacity for heating homes in different localities of La Rioja is comparedaccording to a temperature map made for all La Rioja. In a first case, it is calculatedbased on the TBC; and in a second case, it is calculated based on the minimumoutside temperature. The optimal limits transmittances will be determined in this way. This allows a more accurate calculation of these facilities.
