Abstract

Recently, many computer science curriculums have benefited from the inclusion of internships that are carried out within companies. The Bologna plans emphasize the control of the time devoted to the courses by assigning them a number of ECTS credits. These credits establish the number of classroom hours and the number of hours dedicated by students autonomously. In the case of internships, the same thing happens. In this paper we describe a model of incorporation of compulsory internships in a Degree in Computer Science Engineering. After five courses since its full implementation, we analyzed the time spent by the students to the internships. We also observe how this dedication influences the effort made by the students in the subjects they attend simultaneously (and in the subsequent Final Degree Project). We also analyze the satisfaction of students on internships and we also highlight some technologies used that go beyond those introduced in university classrooms. The conclusions of this work highlight both the importance of internships in the computer science curriculum and the need for careful coordination with subjects taught simultaneously.
