Abstract

In computer science studies, it is common to writecollaborative reports as the culmination of practicalworks. This activity requires more than just using agood editor in the cloud, as students' difficulties inwriting, both individually and in teams, are wellknown. Document templates are widely used, both inthe industry and in university practical works. Theymake it easier to understand the scope and size of thetask to be performed. In addition, they provide a veryinteresting scaffolding that helps to structure complex documents, making the results more comprehensible. Thus, they facilitate individual and collaborativewriting. The templates can be complemented withrelevant examples made by students or reviewed byteachers. To promote real collaborative writing weprovide clones, or copies, of templates in the cloud toour student teams. If we need to handle many clonesmanually the associated task may discourage us. Inthe case of Google Drive documents, simplefunctions can be programmed in Google Apps Scriptto automate clone management tasks. In addition, thanks to the version history, we can know how muchand when the writers of a document have contributed.
