Abstract
In traditional dialectology, graphemics seems to be considered of less importance than the rest of studies. As a result, despite the number of significant studies in which graphemes are found, the analysis carried out have resulted unsystematic and have underlined the differences over what would be the usual. The aim of this essay is to put together a reliable account of what different scholars have found up to now regarding graphemes used in the Navarrese romance of the 13th century to represent the nasal palatal consonant, one of the phonemes whose graphing seems more heterogeneous. It is important to note that this article is not meant to define the graphemes of the nasal palatal in the Navarrese romance, the main goal is to approach its analysis. In order to do so, we have gathered every work which includes studies on the graphemics found in this romance in the 13th century and we have classified all the graphemes that the authors have docu-mented for the nasal palate according to their frequency, both ineach source and in its whole. A total of 253 records were collected in 18 graphemes within the period studied. Ynand ynnare the two examples that appeared the most, followed by nn, nand gn. These five graphemes together come to represent up to 80% of the total. There is still to be needed an exhaustive study of the text analyzed in these works to determine whether the distribution of the graphemes shown by the authors correspond to the documented reality of the whole bibliography
