Abstract

Breastfeeding is a phenomenon bio cultural; with an instinctive and an important cultural conveying component between women. In Spain more than generations of women have not breastfed, the massive introduction of artificial milk in the '70s and the widespread support of "scientific" health motherhood introduced wrong routines and the loss of breastfeeding culture. Foreigner women, who come from places where the transmission of the art of breastfeeding has not been interrupted, leave their behaviour at the time to reach Spain, in order to admit the "inferiority" that we attach to them and their culture and adopt the behaviour prevalent in Spain: early abandonment of breastfeeding. The application of ethnographic method allows us to understand fundamental dimensions about nursing care as values, beliefs and traditional practices that have so far been little taken into account.
