Abstract

During the years 2009 and 2010, a survey of the saproxylic beetles living in the Tobía beech forest (La Rioja) was carried out. The studied stands are located in Sierra de la Demanda, in the Sistema Ibérico Septentrional mountains. Based on the 1490 individuals studied, 174 species were identified, which belonged to 38 families (Staphylinidae excluded). Eighteen species are recorded from La Rioja for the first time, among them the latridiid Stephostethus alternans (Mannerheim, 1844), with its first Iberian record. Additionally, several species are recorded here that are of particular interest because they are threatened in western Europe, or bioindicators, or rare in the Iberian Peninsula.
