Resumen

The nineteenth century is a period of change in many fields and also in the feminine. Different voices were raised debating and establishing clear references of what women should be and what they should not be. This article analyses the medical and ecclesiastical discourse in this regard to establish the common elements to the normative discourse through which the ideal of female virtue was reinforced, and the adaptations to the counter-models with respect to the progressive insertion of women in the social sphere through leisure, education and work throughout the second half of the century.
