Abstract

This article seeks to recall the actions of some of the actors who directly influenced the course of events and made it possible the gradual implementation of liberalism in La Rioja. That will be analyzed from a local perspective and throughout the first decades of the 19th century. We will mention individuals as Ramón Alesón Alonso de Tejada and other residents of La Rioja. They were all men who did not play an important role in national politics at the time. However, they were men committed to their businesses, to the municipal economy and to government institutions. They had the necessary social support networks to stay in power despite institutional changes. Ultimately, they contributed to the establishment of the liberal system from their daily activities happening at the same time as national politics.
