Abstract

Study of silversmith in Vizcaya, since the late Gothic to neoclassicism, with a separate chapter dedicated to the american silversmith. Besides the analysis of the artistic evolution of silversmith, is analyzed the work organization, the activity of the artisans and its brands. In another chapter is approached the influence of the liturgy in the creation of many works of silversmith, especially since the Council of Trent. And it is included a section which the most common silversmith techniques. There are also collected the biographies of the silversmiths in Vizcaya from the fifteenth century to the early nineteenth. It is included a catalogue of silver and metal works, with a brief profile and a photograph. And finally there is a documentary appendix, which contains apprenticeships, work obligations, parochial or private inventories, orders, laws, appraisals, etc.
