Zusammenfassung
Spanish cathedrals played a significant role in the reception of European orchestral music in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. There is widespread evidence of this from various institutions. This article focuses on the Central-European repertoire preserved at León Cathedral. Its objective is to study the reception of these types of works at this cathedral. More specifically, this article aims to document how local musicians arranged and modified these compositions to suit the ensembles available to them. Particular attention is paid to the activity of the violinist Tomás Medrano during his time at the León Cathedral between 1783 and 1807. The article consists of three case studies, which illustrate how this musician copied and arranged orchestral pieces by Central-European composers.
