Abstract
The purpose of this article is to link human rights and social work in the care of the elderly. The main international instruments that address the rights of the elderly have been revised. Despite the existence of such rights, there are situations of ignorance and violation of these rights by this sector of the population. The functions of social work are presented as a key helping profession in the defence of the human rights of the elderly, both at micro social and macro social intervention levels.
