Abstract

Gender equity accompanies the ideal of Western societies. Many international commitments respond to the continuous violation of rights that occurs daily under the present corporate codes of ethics. This social dysfunction should not be left outside the development of the social work profession. That is why it is important that we are there to defend our proposals for intervention and research efforts intending to give answers to a disruptive reality hindering the progress towards a more equitable future. As defenders and developers of human rights, we are required to approach gender issues in all contexts. The educational context is one of them: the philosophy of coeducation is an educational tendency defending gender equity. In this paper, therefore, a correlation of arguments is put forward to highlight coeducation in the ambience of our socio-educational system, in such a way that the scope for action of our profession at school is broadened, making it possible to modify gradually the socio-cultural codes which are reproduced and support gender social differences.
