Abstract

This study aims to investigate the perception that lesbians have about the social and political reality that affects them. The research time goes from the Spain´s Transition to Democracy (1978) to the present, and the geographic frame is La Rioja. The investigation analyzes the consequences of discrimination among the lesbian community. Such discrimination impacts their implication with the feminist collectives since the years of the Transition. Starting from the revision of former studies about this topic, we have examined press articles and we have interviewed lesbian women and representatives from associations and political parties in order to learn about their intervention in social and political movements. The lesbian participation and representation in associations that claims their rights are unequal and limited during the research period, emphasizing the individual commitment over the collective.
