Abstract

Throughout the 19th century, in the midst of profound economic, political, ideological and socio-cultural changes in Spain, a deep renewal of journalism occurred that made it understood as we know it today. Along the second half of the century, the mass media would emerge, and the gazettes, relations or almanacs that had been presented in the form of string-plots years ago would become means of distributing ideas. It was so not only in the national context but also in the provincial and Catholic press that is intended to briefly be discussed here. From a broad perspective it could be said that in the 19th century the press experienced a formidable development as a means of creating and transmitting opinion. And Following the parameters of its time, La Ciencia Eclesiástica sought to instruct the people, while persuading and educating.
