Abstract

As a reflection of our society, elementary education classrooms are, by definition, heterogeneous and multicultural. It is the instructor’s duty to ensure integration and peaceful coexistence, but they are not always equipped with the necessary resources to teach values such as respect and empathy. The same happens in the Faculty of Education, where these aspects of education are often mentioned without offering concrete strategies, much less tools of a creative or artistic nature, to help with their application in the classroom. This article proposes a didactic approach, based on cooperative learning strategies, which takes classical theater, full of expressivity and symbolism, as the starting point to help train university students to be sensitive to the problems faced by immigrant schoolchildren as they incorporate into our society. The Calderonian myth of the tower will inspire a group of stories in favor of integration, which explore the themes of marginalization and isolation, at the same time as they suggest, thanks to the cathartic power of art, different possibilities for overcoming prejudice, solitude and fear.
