Zusammenfassung

Nowadays, in the age of information and considering the relatively small size of our autonomous region, this study shows the need to implement a specific methodology to study and analyze the data. A study was conducted of the Lower Rioja area (Rioja Baja consists of 29 municipalities), during a period of 8 years of economic crisis, between 2007 and 2014. Within these areas, sub-areas were detected according to their differentiated behavior during the period of study. The valley area is more dynamic and prosperous as compared to the mountainous area, where economic activity and population density are both in decline. Graphic representations of the different municipalities allow for a dynamic analysis. The analysis includes urban and farming areas. Results are presented for each municipality and the conclusions cover urban morphology, and industrial and agricultural activities. The results of this study indicate the need to adopt measures to stimulate development and economic prosperity in mountainous regions.
