Abstract

This article analyzes the socio-demographic and employment situation as well as the professional education of the social workers in the Autonomous Community of La Rioja. For this purpose, it was conducted a documentary review of secondary sources centered on the description of the professional profile and the process towards professionalization, before going on to analyze the outcomes of two surveys carried out by the Official College of Social Work of La Rioja: a Labor Insertion Survey conducted among 271 active collegiate members and an Employee and Membership Satisfaction Survey conducted among 197 collegiate members. Following up the results, the current profession trends are studied, such as the feminization, the improvement of the professional education, the stagnation in the different areas of intervention, and its presence in the third sector and private enterprises.
