Abstract

For the last fifteen years or so, the urban perspective within historical musicology has started to become a solid research trend. As opposed to the established views based on composers, repertories or institution as focus of study, urban musicology has suggested turning the attention to the city and to the interactions of musical, social and economic nature that take place in it. This article explains the main methodological issues of this perspective of study as well as its relation to the notions of centre and periphery, which have been so influential, sometimes in a subliminal way, in the narratives about Iberian music.
