Abstract

This paper analyzes the evolution of energy costs in the Basque industry during the period 2000-2009. To this purpose, we first quantify the share of energy costs on production costs in twelve manufacturing sectors in the Basque country. We then analyze the change of the energy expenditure in relation to the industrial value added, which is decomposed into three elements: the relative price change effect, the change in the rate of energy use, and the change in productivity
