Abstract

The spread of the regular clergy was one of the most important phenomena in the Spanish Church during the Early Modern Age. It was an institutional expansion, but also a social one and it reflected the social and religious conditions of the Ancient Regime. The aim of this paper is to analyze the main characteristics of the new foundations in Aragon: the chronology of the establishment of new convents, its geographical spread, the behavior of the religious orders and a first study of the founders and the problems and conflicts that arise during the process.
