Resumo
The purpose of this article is twofold: to analyze the situation, recent evolution and perspectives of industrial sector in La Rioja and assess the specific performances in investigation, development and technological innovation. The study focuses on the particularities of the Riojana industry and their contribution to the region economic development, and emphasizes those characteristics that can explain the less technological intensity in the region. The innovation activity is analyzed by considering the innovative efforts made by the firms and by the institutional framework in that they operate
