Zusammenfassung
La Rioja's economy is now recovering, as evidenced in the principal indicators of productive activity. After reviewing the trends in the main variables where this upturn should be reflected, the paper focuses on two areas -the external sector and tourism- to evaluate their impact on the performance of the region's economy during1994. The findings indicate that only the external sector played a significant role in local activity. In concluding, the paper addresses several questions regarding the future, including the region's ability to maintain the relatively stronger growth rate of the past unless several of the shortcomings that characterize its productive structure are corrected.
