Resumo
The aim of this paper is to develop a longitudinal analysis of the existing heterogeneity of strategies and results within an industry. We use the concept of strategic groups as an intermediate unit between the sector and the firm. The empirical work has been made in the wine industry. For this purpose a representative sample of the commercial firms of the DOCa Rioja has been built. Applying a cluster analysis we have identified two strategic groups which differ each other in terms of the strategic behaviour and tangible and intangible resources commitments. This study also shows that significant performance differences among strategic groups exist along the time period considered
