Abstract

This article aims to calculate the cost of the Methadone programme in the autonomous community of La Rioja, emphasising those parameters which generate a bigger cost to this programme. The study followed a similar structure as the one made by the authors Cobacho, López and Ramos in the autonomous community of the Region of Murcia. The objective has been to calculate the annual costs of the Methadone programme using information dated in 2010. This information was obtained through several interviews maintained with the staff who participate in the different stages of the programme. Costs are classified based on the different stages and dispensation centres which take part in this programme. Data analysis, for a concentration of 2 mg/ml, shows an approximately annual cost of 165.759. Taking the total number of patients into consideration the individual cost is 412,34. The major conclusions of this article are that dispensation is the stage which caused the biggest cost to the programme (146.008,45), the patients whose individual cost are the most expensive are those ones assigned to Alfaro (805,91/patient); however the biggest global cost of the programme came from Logroño's center (65.616,11). Comparing this study with the former one in Murcia, the larger global cost of the programme in La Rioja highlights, probably due to the inclusion of more factors in the dispensation stage of this second study.
