Abstract

This research explained by Calahorra the change in Spain since the crisis of the Old Regime, the reign of Charles IV and the influence of the French Revolution, to the end of the First Carlist War, when the first cycle of Spanish liberalism closes with the Constitution of 1837 and the militarily defeat of the absolutism and counter-revolution by civil war. Due to the large ecclesiastical population of the city, every time the analysis of local politics has been combined with the role of the secular clergy and vice versa.
