Resumo

The globalization has led to the design, manufacture and assembly of a product in different countries. For this reason, we think (propose) that it is necessary to develop a new dimensioning standard to suit the current needs of technology, changing and unifying their set of rules, recommendations and requirements in order to make them more simple, concise and eventually universal, getting through this eliminating the existed barriers among different countries. The current dimension is based on previously existing standard, although with minor adaptations, to the emergence of CAD3D systems. We believe that is necessary a new standard, more appropriate, quick and adapted to 3D design, to advanced manufacturing systems and sophisticated methods of dimensional and geometric dimensioning verification. This thesis provides a methodology for dimensioning that allows the designer a graphical representation of the product with geometrical and dimensional information that shortens design time and increase productivity by avoiding duplication and improving the automatic dimensioning. A new dimensioning standard is proposed which has been validated by means of a comparative revision of the most widespread dimensioning standards (ISO, ASME, DIN, UNE, BSI), through several tests and questionnaires carried out by technicians of CAD3D design. The results achieved allow us to state that the suggested dimensioning system is suitable to be used with 3D models and their 2D projections; the results will be even much better when CAD systems incorporate this dimensioning method.
