Résumé
The aim of this article is to demonstrate that Frontin wrote his land surveying writings in the first years of Vespasian's reign. To support this proposal, we have considered several facts : his political career from praetorship to first consulate ; the content of the prefaces of his other two works, Strategemataand De aquaeductu urbis Romae ; the circumstances of composition of the second one ; and, finally, the situation of bankruptcy which Vespasian met when he arrived in Rome
