Abstract

Using a sample of 180 owner-managers of their businesses a time-laggeddesign with five data- collection points was used to test whether psychologicalwell-being mediates the relationships between entrepreneurial orientation, emotional exhaustion, and work-family fit with entrepreneur satisfaction. Basedon discrepancy theory, satisfaction was measured as the gap betweenexpectations and actual outcomes. The structural equation model analysedrevealed a negative indirect effect of emotional exhaustion on entrepreneursatisfaction through psychological well- being, and a positive indirect effect ofwork-family fit on entrepreneur satisfaction through psychological well-being.Our findings suggest that, in the framework of small and medium- sizedenterprises, psychological well-being plays a key role in explaining the level ofentrepreneur satisfaction.
